Isn’t it odd how small the world is? For items of power that people dearly treasure can so easily be misplaced or stolen, can so easily be found by those whose path tread dangerously close to your own.

The fading beams of light from the fading afternoon struggled to fight their way through the cold cloudy weather. Kirei had just finished a particularly satisfying meal and began his usual return journey to the church before it got dark. He’d not long past the Shinto station and didn’t have much further to go.

A light spray of water flickered up from one of the many drainage ditches in Fuyuki as an unusual object catches the priest’s eyes. A grim, soggy tome being hauled against the flow of water by what seemed to be an intrusion of cockroaches. This was no normal occurrence as Kirei’s wavered an eyebrow at the event.

Weighing up his own curiosity to the dangers of such an irregular event he’s curiosity finally got the better of him. Glancing an inquisitive eye to his surroundings he crept down the concrete embankment and entered the ditch, his shoes filling with water and walked towards the tome. With every step he took the creatures tried to plough onwards with fearful haste. There was clearly some magical force at play here, as Kirei began to pull a red holy shroud from the confines of his uniform wrapping it around his hand as he went.

“Maranatha!”
Bellowed the priest as he thrust his hand into the water and clasped the book within the shroud. The vermin scarpered from his presence seemingly dissolving against his will. It was hard to tell initially how much damage the water had done to the book, but the binding still felt oddly resilient. Unwilling to inspect a magical book out in the open Kirei took a single leap back onto the path towards the church and started wrapping the book tightly before hiding it amongst his robes. A slight tinge of annoyance struck through his body as his feet made a squelching noise in his soggy shoes.

Kirei had trudged back to the Church in a curious haste. Flicking his shoes off into a dark corner corner he strode up to the alter leaving a trail of soggy footprints along the wooden floor. He then carefully began to unwrap the book and much to his surprise it had already began to dry up. It was hard to tell from where the book has come, or as to why it was being carried by insects. A brief image of a certain Matou magus flickered through his mind as he placed his hand down over the book and a prayer began to resonate from his mouth.

“In the name of God, I exorcise all influences of evil, and lay upon them the spell of Christ’s holy church, that they may be banished and driven forth from this tome, which we are about to dedicate to divine service. In the power of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

There was no sparkles of light, no shift of atmosphere, not even a flicker of a candle as he spoke. Any observer would have thought it was a waste of time to say a prayer but to Kirei it felt like the right thing to do. As he opened the book he noted it had a familiar, flesh like texture to it. It wasn’t quite the hide of a simple beast, nor heretical human flesh, but it wasn’t pleasant. Flicking further through the book he glanced through unrecognisable words, diagrams and other magi related subjects. But then, in the centre of the book as if crying out to be found an all too familiar mark was etched into the pages.

Command spells?
A book containing command spells?
This was no simple tome of knowledge, nor was it a binding book created for simple magical contracts. It was a tool to grant false ownership of a servant! But which servant?

Numerous questions began to flood Kirei’s mind, how could he use this to his advantage? Had he brought an item of extreme danger into his Church? Was this in fact a trap? The next few moments would reveal it all.

Prologue

The mellow horizon appeared an odd mix of orange contrasted with deeper shades of raven as the glorious sun dipped in languorous haze.

The purple maned gorgon witnessed the proceedings of this sequence of chaos in resigned wistfulness, as she had always. What Zouken’s predecessors had wished to accomplish by deceiving fate, he had pragmatically grand orchestrated a farce as the events befolded, exactly as the man strategically manuevered his chessboard pieces.

Even so, her hapless situation did nothing to bolster her lack of desire to assist any of their avaricious hidden agendas except for the naïve Tohsaka girl bought in to be grievously tormented and experimented with. And if that weren’t enough, she was psychologically abused and treated as a perverse object; slave to her foster sibling’s every baser desires.

It sickened her deep into the internal recesses of her empathising spirit as she couldn’t help but feel overjoyed at the karmic effect of brutality and ignominy Shinji had to endure until along did the hand of God came, as if an agent was heaven sent to loftily restore harmony.

The whole series fast-forwards in subsequent reels, as she had often envisaged passing several moments of comatose inducing tortures during centuries of her whole life, each pioneer character playing out their respective roles in a staged play. There was no other way this were to transpire, justice was being served royally and her own melancholic ordeal seemed like it served a dutiful purpose; to bring out the beneficial elements into play in the grander scheme of events, when perceived from a larger scale. She began to have faith.

She grew colder as they neared the next haven from this hostile climate. Rain pelted down heavily in barrage of bullets as though it was nature’s way of saying something ominous was to be melodramatically revealed next. Medusa could heart the rhapsodic pounding of the man who now held the very intricate balance that sealed her purpose in this time frame.

As the exorcism was being performed ritualistically, a sardonic smile curled the graceful features of her dainty visage. Was God now mocking her for remaining a sacrilegious heretical being half of her entire existence? Sublime and ironic, she mirthfully confessed.

The next few seconds that followed were explosive to a fair degree that any formidable Magus warehouse would be able to mask without raising suspicion in the immediate neighbourhood. Fluorescent streaks of crimson red lightning emanated from the Faux Book itself as it seared hot enough and deemed no longer hospitable to be held within arm’s length.

The vixen finally materialized, blissfully ignorant of what purpose all this could serve. She was emotionally distant as to who held her command seal strings. In the end, she was a mere puppet, contrary to what a legend of her station would be esteemed enough to hold.

She knelt down subserviently on one thigh, her divine form as mesmerizing as the very array of neon lightning underneath her glowing radiant in the complex structure of a magic circle, only a shady sorcerer could toilingly extricate using alchemy and forbidden dark arts of the occult.

Everything in the dense air momentarily froze to a lesser temperature. Fear. Fear. Death. Carnage.

Looming phantom of gruesome vengeance, almost macabre in her dominatrix attire which Shinji subjugated using CS and compelled her to wear so as to appeal to his deviant tastes, in disenchanted robotic movements did she stand up, geometrically perfect array of curves befitting a goddess brought forth to life yet again.


“Upon your summoning, I have come forth. I ask you, are you my master?”


In cold wisps, as the hemorrhagic stench of blood adsorbed the locus of where she stood defying the very laws of physical nature, she lifelessly enquired as a tormenting malicious entity would in the cold perspiring sensations felt in the aftermath of a parasomniac, nightmarish state. This however, was quite lucid, one could feel it. Almost providing a shuddering dejavu to someone without nerves of steel who knew better not to jeopardize any clashing hopes of surviving such a traumatic episode and getting out of the labyrinth alive in one piece.

It is much to my liking, yes. No worries, far better than expected actually. Took me 3 hours straight, but it’s not as ostentatious as I would want to have it. Time is of the essence so I did so without further delay. Could’ve gone way better if I was still in touch with my former, OCD rp-ing self. taking mental notes of every little detail and creating my own mental movie out of it.

I do, it makes me feel irked. But sometimes, I do enjoy being washed down upon by pure water from the cloud laden skies. Bolting rain pellets on skin rejuvenates my spirits. Not to mention the fresh aura of moistened mud. Something about its richness speaks to my soul way more than any perfume line’s artificial fragrance. Heh.

Take your time, no rush to respond promptly. Just doing my job. I realise your net isn’t working. So just message on skype when it’s taken care of. Excitedly look forward to how this turns out. I appreciate your efforts pooled in to provide me with such a fascinating escape.

“Gah… A trap?”

Red bolts of lightning erupted from the book sending a sharp searing pain through Kirei’s arm. In response Kirei launched into the sky with black keys, two in one hand, one in the other. He’d already prepared his targets, one to the book and two to whatever was summoned. He’d only have a small window of opportunity to pin down the target to make his escape.

As he soared backwards down the central walkway the book continued to erupt violently sending an indomitable gust through the church’s dusty nave. Kirei struggled to keep his eyes open against such force, it was only then did he begin to see a slender figure materialising a mere metre from where he would land. Now was his chance to strike. Like a cannon his arm launched into action, the first key was launched towards the book.

---But wait
---What was this?

The summoned figure was beginning to submissively kneel? It could be another trap, but it would have been a prudent time to attack Kirei if she held hostile intentions. He’d barely had enough time to stop himself, as one of the black keys had already launched grazing past the book piercing through the holy shroud and penetrated the alter to the hilt. He gracefully landed before the woman holding his remaining black keys defensively as her words reached his ears.

“Upon your summoning, I have come forth. I ask you, are you my master?”

---Summoning…
---Master…?

Kirei raised an eyebrow at her words, his mouth opened to respond but he was frozen to the spot in awe as the very atmosphere around her froze with the stench of death. Regaining his composure, he lowered his arms, the Black Keys dematerialising but remaining firm in his hands.

“A servant bound to the command spells is one of the very core components of the grail war. Would it not appear that the command mantra that bounds you is now within my possession? For you was neither commanded by spell nor forced to come here against your will. I ask of you, why do you not attempt to reclaim the book of false attendant for your current master? I mistakenly left an opening large enough for any servant to take advantage of.”

The servant before him wasn’t a servant he had summoned. Trusting a mere book which was no out of arms reach would be foolish. The command spells in that book were useless there, he would need to extract them and graft them to his arm as soon as possible if he was to utilise this servant. It shouldn’t take long, but he most certainly couldn’t do it with this servant before him or without her trust. He couldn’t judge the servant’s speed or agility accurately but he made a calculated decision that he was still within range of destroying the book if need be.

He seemed rather awe-struck. Her new puppeteer. His eyes glowered towards her, piercing her soul with fierce and hostile malevolence.

In a frenzied state, the thick air around them heavily doped with the scent of ashen littered scrolls and tainted blood, a throbbing sound would succeed quickly in a reign of terror. It is how the Gorgon had overtime terrorized her mortal victims who dared wander into her Isle.

She eyed the keys with distant apathy, a mere Mage was no match for her unless he knew what he was doing with the book the Matous had hoaxed. It would take hours of investigation to actually decipher the markings to one's advantage, she knew. And yet, if he chose to sacrifice the power he held within his palms previously this afternoon, then she would be dispersed into delible crumbs on spot. 

Remaining seated in her posture, purple maned thick head decisively bowed in subservient form, she calmly spoke in even tone "You would think the fabricator of such a subverted grimoire would simply allow a Servant to gain access to whoever they would rather voluntarily choose as their next Master?" she daringly inquired, well aware that even he could see logic behind something so glaringly obvious under such an unprecedented circumstance.

She elegantly rose, her frail serpent form delicately fresh as a spring blossom, and continued in her flimsy, detached and amoral demeanor. Her figure was mesmerizing enough to not get lost track of what she eloquently spoke in smooth vocals, but the cursed aura she projected due to her innate debauchery paralyzed any man within close proximity and left them spellbound to a lesser intensity than the activated form. 

"It wasn't crafted without a foolproof plan in case a Servant grew... audacious enough to turn the tables to their vantage and eventually hold the trump card to succeed in this war. Even you should know any safelock works under a similar principle when the wrong set of combination is entered arbitrarily." Her fists were clutched at either ends beside her booted thighs. Slowly she raised a step towards the taller man, careful and cautious about not terrifying him to prompt action as she reassured him he held the power to subjugate her at his will and command.

"Even if for the sake of argument I were to retrieve it back somehow, my ownership would be granted to someone unworthy of utilizing my ammunition to the fullest potential. And besides," She halted at a safe distance to not leave the priest petrified or spuriously incited to anything defensive, "it would just send me back to where I initially came from as my purpose would no longer be served. And none of us would have it. Atleast, not when both of our respective agendas are not fruitfully derived given the  amount of toil invested behind all of it."

She stood tall now, her slender, porcelain forearms elegantly criss- crossed over her torso, awaiting patiently of what he contemplated about such an unforseen scenario ever occurring in this war he officially umpired.

Ah, okay I will be more careful with the location. It was in the vicinity of the altar itself. Those church bells still ringing and a random magic circle just happens to appear right where the spell book fell off after leaving his hands cauterised.

From vampire spawn to eldritch abominations that familiar stench of death had long followed Kirei along the path of the executioner. It was of no surprise that he seemed to completely disregard it. In return his cold heavy gaze fought in kind against her petrifying aura as he began to inspect the servant. She seemed to flow with precise movements as if she had the very agility to slide through air and avoid the summer breeze at a whim. Then again it would be foolish to judge a Servant from her physique alone. Even the fragile Belladonna is fatal to the unsuspecting eyes. A smirk grew on his face at the very thought, what a fitting flower given the servant’s venomous aura. He began to speak out to her more comfortably as he attempted to use his power of clairvoyance to read her stats.

“Only an unfitting master would have to resort to such trivial methods of binding command spells to a grimoire. I would be inclined to contemplate if he or she even understands the full scope of the grail war. Even then I somewhat doubt they would be able to do that task without aid, which is rather intriguing as to why a master would relinquish their command mantra so freely.”

Kirei slowly circled back on himself taking an elongated route back to the alter as to not let the servant out of his sights. He felt rather sluggish as if her presence had an effect on his agility but with each step he took away from her it was if a burden was being removed from his shoulders.

“I find it difficult to discern your identity from that choice of attire. Although the blindfold would suggest you are either blind, or are binding your eyes for a reason. I would hazard a guess you are servant class Assassin or Rider?”

Reaching out Kirei grasped the book firmly in his hands once more and turned to address the servant. His ominous voice echoed out across the Church as he begun to play on top of her metaphors.

“You seek a master worthy of utilising your armaments. Yet would you be contempt with being fired into the darkness, unknowing of your target? Let me ask you, what is your agenda in this grail war? For once we gain an understanding of each other can we act in harmony to further our goals. Alas, I have the power to dispose of the needless tome and graft the command spells onto my very being, if you should permit it.”

It would be much easier for Kirei if the servant cooperated with the command spell transfer. But he could always move them without her consent if he so desired.

His voice never seemed to quiver or waver as he dutifully spoke in his rigid mannerism with that sermon delivering tone. The gorgon herself remained composed as he cautiously assessed his quandary. 

The fallacious priest had well enough estimated her class which she acquired after being summoned in this time-frame.

"Close.." She lightly interjected in a whisper while gazing sideways from underneath her visor. She was bound by a contract to him now. It was only becoming to reveal her true identity, though perhaps she may have him guessing for a bit more before forging a certain amount of trust bond in due time.

"My outfit has little do not with my station, Master. It was behoved upon me by the chesty brat you earlier crossed paths with, and I merely complied under the restraints of a command spell." Her voice faltered a touch, though she did it not to evoke sympathy for such an abusive exploitation, and she knew for a fact that he would not give that away to someone he had just melded pranas with through the Grail circuit nexus, much less he possessed none to give away at charity to begin with.

Mantra was a term that she was unused to hearing, but she did not feel the need to impose on every detail and fell silent again. She would take from him only that which was imminent. Which made her seem even more morbidly dead than the milky white skin of hers gave away.

"Rider, desu. A Servant has but only limited options in a war such as this. We were not given any specific instructions beforehand..

We simply knew what our purpose was instinctively, and that is to effectively assist during combat the one who holds the Command Seal."

Her eyes lingered towards the book which the austere man now held. She was vaguely aware that he intended to migrate the seals to engrave the markings onto his flesh. "We are but your sword in the battlefield, the arm that you outstretch to lay a spell should you only put your concentrated mind into it. And we are obliged to make that wish happen. 
To that effect, my duty bounds me to facilitate you in acquiring the Grail, nothing else."

She shifted slightly her fingers which were placed beneath her chin and her fists were slightly clenched before continuing, "If you were alluding to personal motives however, they do not concern you at this point. I will only fight and engage in hand to hand or weapon based tactical combat as you will have me direct, should a Master accompanying a powerful servant cross paths or desire to clash blades."


If anything she desired from such a treaty, she only wanted to experience the thrilling pangs of bloodshed and feel alive while drowned in the bloodbath as she mindlessly annihilated her prey. But such words were not required to brought to his attention at such a sensitive state. He would only suspect that she was an irrational beast again, conveniently discarded as she no longer served any purpose to his ambitious end.

"A chesty brat? It would seem your previous master was a prepubescent fool. I care not for what you wear. If it pleases you, or should you find it increases your combat prowess you may take on whatever form you see fit.

For the moment the very existence of this grail was is what I find to be of interest. Unlike the previous incarnation there seems to be a few things that seem, out of place so to speak. From my understanding they are meant to reoccur every sixty years, and yet here we are. A mere ten years after the previous war is somewhat of a discrepancy, I do expect the rather violent conclusion of the former war is what has triggered this. It's somewhat unique that a person without long life or false immortality lives to see two, implying they survive the first.

Before I am willing to take a step into the light and confront other servants head on, I would want to obtain a better knowledge of the playing field. I did have some form of a familiar looking out and provoking other servants to see what their combat specialisations are but it has gone rather silent in the previous day. Probably its own failing by being so reluctant to participate... Alas, while you may not be assassin I trust this falls somewhere into your speciality. Nimble movements would allow you to outrun the foe if you are discovered for whatever reason. You may probe them as much as you see fit, but do not reveal your true identity. Just ensure that no one follows you back here."

The priest opened up the book of false attendant, placing a firm hand down on its heretical pages. Below his breath a scripture quietly rasped out as he utilised his position of overseer of the Holy Grail War.

"Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in heavenly places."

Accompanying a burst of dull pain, a single command spell transferred across to Kirei's arm, the other seemed to be tied into the book with a much stronger bond than he'd initially anticipated leaving him unable to use it at this time. Kirei wasn't an adept magus, his magic circuits had been a gift from the divine sacrament. The physical connection to the command seal would mean what power Kirei could muster could flow to his newly found Servant, should she make the contract with him. Kirei rolled up one sleeve, revealing the Command Seal on his arm, and chanted solemnly.

"Rider, should you wish to fight alongside me. Let thy body rest under my dominion, let my fate rest in thy blade. If thou submittest to the call of the Holy Grail, and if thou wilt obey this mind, this reason, then thou shalt respond—"

The Servant was quite relieved when the priest was unconcerned about what manner of dressing she preferred to affiliate herself with in battle. Admittedly, the boob tunic was quite an inconvenience during battle, not out of concern for modesty but more a matter of sheer ridicule. Equipping better combat armour or leather gear was sure to prove more efficient to not deter her movement, that was for certain.

"Hai." Rider inaudibly affirmed with a submissively diligent, decisive nod.

She tried to make sense of what anomaly he alluded to. Apparently there was a lesser time lapse between the previous grail and this subsequent one. She had no idea he referred to himself as having survived both wars thus far. But that did strike as odd, if what he spoke of was indeed quite true. If that were the case, then even more caution was to be placed as the war would proceed rather unpredictably and one unwise course of action would lead to sure demolition of their well devised plans. She did surpass in reconnaissance and sabotage during her previous participation. Losing the adversary's trail following a successful espionage was not an issue for someone as elusive and spry such as her.

"If that is what you wish for, then surely I shall abide by your orders as you have directed me." She spoke less domineeringly than before, as he had already accepted his role as her Master and she definitely was a loyal one to the cause of whoever held the book and also earned her trust in prudence to effectively utilize her well enough.

"Perhaps then, striking at the very core of the link that seems to be the cause of such a discrepancy from occurring...?" She deftly thought to herself, choosing not to interrupt the priest's sermon as he spoke those alien words. Even as he pronounced those holy verses, she could feel a dreary sense of exorcism being meted on to her vile soul. However, his conviction was not strong enough as a holy being with firm belief himself as therefore she listened to him enunciate them, attempting to comprehend the gravity of the matter and what was at stake here.

As the glowing red seal migrated onto his arm, she witnessed the manner in which he handled pain. It did not phase him in the least, and he only concentrated on his role to fully decipher the complexity of the Matou thaumaturgy which made it possible for just about any Mage to form a contract with her, Magi descent or not.

She closed her blindfolded accursed eyes and inhaled prior to bracing herself to the flow of prana burst as he glamoured her with the spell he was versed at. Taciturn as she was in her demeanour, she wordlessly yielded to his hold on her with the statement to meld their respective oudo. So long as he provided her for with his mana pool, she would furnish even more. A Servant was what the Master made of them.
